The JEE 2006

Tuesday, April 11, 2006

The IIT JEE 2006 was scheduled on the 9th of April.
With hefty changes in the pattern this new avatar of the JEE was welcomed by all and sundry. Until Jan-06 I was almost fully geared to tackle the JEE, but then selection in the NDA and the SSB interview, BOARD practicals simply took me away from it. These swallowed Feb, and then was the time for the Board –exams. I was almost decided that I’ll start preparing for the JEE from the first hour of 24th March (23rd was the last exam—comp science)
But if every thing could go as decided then we would all have been millionaires. I don’t remember what might have had happened that day but surely I didn’t had the best of the study periods until April 1st. the US-admission process also ate away my time and by this time I was almost kind of passionate about getting my bachelor’s degree in engineering from MIT. Even today the craze ain’t vanished.
Anyways I believe the blog was supposed to be upon JEE……… allow me to concentrate ……….

Alright, there was no tension _-_ even the night before the JEE I watched the movie, “Maine Gandhi ko nahi mara”-(Hindi—it means ‘I didn’t kill Gandhi’). The central character of the movie was a patient suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, who forgets all his present and starts believing that he had killed Gandhi. It was a nice and touching script……….

Hell, why can’t I just concentrate upon JEE

Ammm…... Lets give it another try

April 9, 2006

It was decided that I’ll go with Gaurav on his Army- Gypsy and I guess there’s no point in mentioning what had happened during the journey. We were there 15 mins before the scheduled time of starting.Upon reaching the gate we were instructed to leave our bags outside the centre. Now we had no place to keep the bag, the car was already gone.

Now the IITian (future IITian rather) came into play, Gaurav had an idea. He pleaded with the shopkeepers who refused to take custody of the bag reasoning that they already had enough of them. This gave us some confidence that there were others like us too ( also a feeling that there many (future) IITians in the center already …hmm)

When we were back at the gates I realized that I had left my Admit Card in the bag itself and now with just a 5 mins to go I had to rush not only to fetch my Admit Card but also to get to my testing seat crossing the sprawling campus of the College( our test centre).

The paper(Physics Exam) went fine but the only disappointment was that the topics I was weak at were holding a larger proportion. I had finished the paper with surprisingly about half an hour to go ( I should mention that I had not attempted the whole of the question paper). Half an hour more ………. And I never felt like going through the remaining portion so I turned onto to the instructions page where I found another surprising feature there were a few questions that carried NO negative marks,,,, so I started attempting those questions furiously. The paper was over and now we were left with two consuming hours to spare until the next part of the exam would start. I, Gaurav and Neeraj(a school pal) hooked up together and spent all our time in a refreshment shop chewing snacks and munching sweets. I didn’t ate much……. This was quite beneficial while the two were sleepy and drowsy during the Mathematics Exam.which really tested a student’s skills. Yet again we were left with another two hours to spare. This was the time to finish the Tiffin I was carrying.
Chemistry was to follow…………….

Overall I got to realize the new dimensions of this ever competitive exam. The new pattern had enwrapped the ‘old JEE screening’ thing as well as a part of the ‘Mains’.
Taking a brief overlook at the Question papers
CHEMISTRY : It was quite evenly poised –i.e. Physical, organic and inorganic had their regular stacks and none was over-emphasized.
MATHEMATICS : This was a decent paper wherein Calculus and Geometry were on the up whereas other sections could not command their proportion..
PHYSICS : Although I was unable to observe the Question paper completely, yet a significant thing to observe were the Two questions which involved lab-lectures.

DO post your comments. Even the comment “NO COMMENTS” would do.
